Pros: extremely flattering
Cons: material snags easily, buttons come off easily, pockets are low and shallow
"Being my dream coat, and considering my obsession with Tracy Reese, I am willing to overlook the glaring flaws with this coat.
First off, the pros. It's absolutely gorgeous and so flattering (I am pear-shaped). When worn over a dress and tights, it looks like a dress itself.
Cons: I've already had to re-sew 2 buttons. This coat snags *very* easily, especially if you wear rings or bracelets. Also, the pockets are quite low (at first I didn't realize it had pockets), especially for the short-armed like myself.
But as I said, because I am so in love with it, I am willing to overlook these flaws. I just think it could have been made better for this price."

Pros: great quality!
Cons: make thin girls look large.
"I was so excited for this coat to come in the mail. It looked perfect!! The right amount of Victorian mixed with modern. Unfortunately, upon arriving my excitement died. The coat, once on me, made me look very wide. I'm 5"7 115 and long-waisted. The ruffles on the coat gave me a four extra inches all around my torso. The coat body as well was too big. Fit well in the arms, though.
No complaints about the quality- beautiful pattern, material, and craftsmanship! But if you're tall and slender, this coat will not be flattering.
Returned it today; very sad."

Pros: it's perfect on my body type (pear shape)
"This coat is beautiful! It is heavy and warm for upstate NY (in the Catskills). I'll be wearing it a lot this December and through February as the color and print scream winter! It is a very special, feminine coat with the ruffles down the front and tapered waist which ends in a skirt- like effect. I have large hips but it does not emphasize, it more just hangs nicely and camouflages them. I am 5'7",150 lbs and the medium fits perfectly, even the sleeves are long enough for my lengthy arms. I cannot fit a bulky sweater under it but a blouse and med/light cardigan will work. It looks amazing with black skinny jeans and tall boots. The buttons are shiny which adds to the charm of the coat. I'll be getting tons of compliments tomorrow when I wear it for the first time. Everyone asks me where I get my sweaters and such, but I'm trying to keep anthropologie my secret!:)"

Pros: ultra feminine yet still holds a rugged charm., great fit for short/petite frame
Cons: pockets could be deeper, looks bit overdone/too busy with a scarf
"I first saw this coat a few months back in the catalogue, but couldn't justify the price. So very happy that I waited to purchase it on sale, definitely worth the later price. It is absolutely fantastic looking with the front ruffles, plaid, and glitzy black buttons. Looks great with tights and boots or even just jeans. I'm quite petite at 5'2, ordered the XS and it fits fabulously (I'm generally a US size 0-2). Definitely doesn't appear too long or wide around the waist, and for my size I still have plenty of room for a couple of layers underneath. The shoulders fit my frame perfectly (though I could see where others might call it snug and tight on the bust-– whereas I'm only a 32A), and the sleeves are of the correct length. The coat's perfect for a cold autumn or a relatively chilly winter day, though it does weigh a ton when picked up! Search out the pockets near the ruffles––they are sewn shut."

Pros: cute and warm
Cons: all buttons no zipper
"I am only 4'9", and I thought the drop waist hit at a strange spot. I thought I'd be able to find another cute coat that I liked that fit better so I returned it. I didn't find another cute coat within the week, so a few days later I ended up repurchasing the coat. Fortunately, I found it in a smaller size which ended up fixing the length problem. I even asked the girl in the fitting room for verification and she thought it looked fine too. The only thing is that the sleeves are a bit long, but only by like a half-inch or so. With gloves or hands in pockets (which yes are a bit low for comfort, but still tolerable) it's not noticeable.
I was just in Chicago a couple days ago and was plenty warm with only a long-sleeved shirt under a short-sleeved t-shirt and jeans.
A small problem I have with the coats I've bought from Anthro is that they all button up instead of zipping up, so I feel like I need a couple minutes head start of everyone when getting up from dinner at a restaurant.
Otherwise, a great purchase!

"Loved this coat and wanted to hang on to it - I'm a huge fan of Tracy Reese as she's originally from Detroit, MI, like me.
The fit is as described in other reviews - smallish through the bust, roomy around the hips. I wore a medium though I typically wear a small.
I needed to return this coat, however, because after three wears, it showed a tremendous amount of pilling on the underside of the arms. It showed too much wear almost immediately.

Pros: great style, good color combination, warm, nice fabric
Cons: runs small, shoulders tight, too youthful
"I like this coat, but it is a Christmas gift for a19 yearl old. I have no idea what she will have to say. But from my point of view, this coat is very warm, stylish and has a sweater like quality. It is a little too young looking for me. Also it runs very small. My daughter and I wear the same size - small/6-8 - and the small was so tight in the shoulders, I couldn't move, but just right through the body. I had to reorder the medium, which fits in the shoulders but is a little big through the body."

Pros: beautiful quality and pattern
Cons: size is off due to the cut
"The Birling Ruffle Coatis so adorable...Plaid is really in! The only problem is I have two sizes right now.I don't know which one to keep. The XS is a little tight in the shoulders but fits the body better, the small is the opposite...I don't know what to do. I'm petite with a small frame and I don't want the coat to make me look bigger in the hip area, but the sleeves on the XS are tighter and short(I'm only 5'3????) It's definitely a keeper but I disagree with another review about it not being warm enough. I was thinking of keeping the XS.I don't like being too warm and I would prob not wear anything too thick under it.If you pick it up, you can tell it will be warm because it's pretty heavy. Anyway,if you are more pear shaped or just like to layer a lot, I would recommend sizing up.Hope this helps???"

Pros: just great
Cons: stiff at shoulders
"I was thinking about getting this coat for some time, once it went on sale I couldn't resist it any more..
it's right on size. The only thing that i wasn't sure about, it's somewhat stiff at the shoulders so if you want to move your hands it's not as easy. But after wearing it only once, this not seem to be a problem (maybe it got softer?)
This is a great coat for wearing skirts and boots; no more ugly down blanket coat for me!"

Pros: design and quality
Cons: fit unproportional
"This coat is nice quality and cute design, however on my small frame it was quite bottom heavy and flared out a bit much. When I gathered it up in the back a bit it looked great, but since there is no seam to gather I could not take it to the tailor and did not want to place a pin like one other person suggested. For the money it should look great straight away without paying extra for alterations. Taller, curvier women may look great in this coat. Try it on and decide. I am returning mine too bad since it has a nice design and very feminine look."

Pros: fabric weight overall style
Cons: buttons could use reinforcing but are lovely.
"I love this coat. The lines and shape are very fem, but the buffalo check makes it appropriate to wear with jeans and casual tops. The length is great, and the drop-waist keeps you from feeling too bulky if you are layering sweaters underneath."

Pros: warm but not heavy, soft comfy wool, beautiful cut and color, pockets, sale price, great for pear shaped figures
Cons: the buttons may need to be reinforced, pockets are too low
"Just bought this. I'm not positive if I'll keep it (I'm waiting for another coat to come in the mail so I can compare.)
Firstly, the coat has pockets. They are lightly sewn shut. Just pop the little seams and Voila! However, on petite me the pockets are too far down for comfort.
The material is luxuriously soft, both the lining and the wool. Not at all itchy (I have sensitive skin, so this is great news!)
The coat is super warm but not as heavy as many other warm winter coats.
The color is a gorgeous deep ruby.
I'm super pear-shaped (XS shoulders to M/L hips) On me this coat is very fitted - almost like a well tailored dress. But, I think on others it would be looser around the hips and waist. Either way the cut is darling.
At the sale price, this coat is a fantastic deal.

Cons: the bottom part slightly droopy
"i have been coveting this coat. i like the cut on top, good material, warm and the ruffles are to die for. fits well but the bottom half of the coat you have to get use to, i think it needs a flouncy skirt underneath to give it a full look. every where i have gone wearing, i have received compliments. definitely a show stopper!"

"I've been watching this coat since it came out in catalog but was not going to pay full price tried it on in the store before if went on sale and i loved it. Finally it went on sale and i bought an xs right away it is adorable and it fits true to size may run a bit small in the sholders, so if you have a bigger chest i would go a size up. The only thing i can say is that it can be a little itchy at times in the arms even though it has a silk lining on the inside i feel the outside fabric poke through.Overall i and extremely happy with it and it is perfect."

Pros: beautifully made well-constructed heavy fabric
Cons: none i can think of
"Absolutely beautiful coat. Very substantial for a cold winter day or evening. The "skirt" and ruffle give it a dressy look, but the familiar black and red plaid pattern lends itself to casual wear as well. Dress it up or down - it'll work well in almost any situation. I'm really glad I made the investment. At the sale price it's a great value and you'll probably wear it for years."

"I just got my coat in the mail and I am sooo in love with it!!! It is the cutest coat I think I'll ever have. I love the feminine details and the ruffles. I got an XS and it fits me very nicely but there won't be much room for layering. The sleeves are a tad short but it doesn't bother me. I love this so much and I would totally recommend it. I was so happy to catch it on sale!"

Pros: warm
Cons: watch the buttons!
"Today, after several days of looking at in stores and online, I finally took the plunge and purchased this coat. I was thankful for the attractive sale price. I find this coat to be both stylish and warm. The buffalo plaid is hot for this season so this item ranks a notch higher than some other brands on the market. I am 5'3 with a 36C measured bust and I purchased a size large. The sleeves are a tad bit snug, but I know to wear medium and lightweight attire beneath it. I recommend this coat to anybody who is comforable in their own skin."
